We are seeking an experienced Lead Game Designer to join our indie studio and take charge of the design vision for our atmospheric co-op horror project. As the lead designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the player experience, defining compelling gameplay systems, envisioning a rich narrative, and guiding the team toward project goals. For which tasks (responsibilities)?
Own and champion the design vision for the project, ensuring alignment with the game's narrative, mechanics, and business goals.
Lead the design team, fostering collaboration and setting high-quality standards for game design across all areas.
Drive the creation of innovative, engaging, and immersive gameplay systems, levels, and mechanics with a focus on horror elements.
Create, maintain, and oversee comprehensive design documentation.
Prototype, test, and refine design concepts using feedback from playtests and live data.
Provide detailed feedback during reviews on all aspects of game design, including player characters, enemies, and levels.
Partner with other disciplines (programming, art, sound, etc.) to deliver polished and cohesive features.
Identify design risks and work collaboratively to develop mitigation strategies.
Stay informed about industry trends and integrate innovative ideas to enhance the player experience.
Mentor and guide the design team, fostering professional growth and alignment with project goals.
What kind of professional are we looking for?
7+ years of professional game design experience, with at least one shipped title in the horror genre or a similarly atmosphere-heavy game developed in Unreal Engine.
Proven leadership experience in a design role, including mentoring or managing a team of designers.
Expertise in level design, player character design, enemy design, and core gameplay mechanics.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate and iterate on design concepts and game mechanics.
Broad knowledge of systems and content design, particularly in creating immersive horror experiences.
What is important for us in a person?
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across disciplines and guide a diverse team.
